Palm Sunday 2023

Palm Sunday.
Celebration!
Triumph!
Singing!
Dancing!
Parades!

But followed by Holy Week:
“Filled with emotional highs and lows
and the reconciliation of many terrible contradictions.
Every step toward the cross this week was intentional,
every lesson laced with His personal LOVE for all of us.”

Hosanna!
Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!
Blessed is the King of Israel!
Hosanna! – John 12:13

“For a moment, for one beautiful moment, the crowds of Jerusalem honored their King. Covering the road in a royal carpet of palm branches and cloaks. Yet, even though He knew that the people would soon reject Him, Jesus still showed up for the parade they held in His honor. Jesus did not let the rejection of tomorrow cause Him to reject the love of today.”

Today calls for one of our amazing, celebratory hymns. I like to think that the crowds in the streets were singing loud and in one voice like this.
All Hail the Power of Jesus’ Name by Edward Perronet in the 1700s. (This lively version by the Getty’s.)

Click HERE to listen. Words below:

All hail the power of Jesus’ name!
Let angels prostrate fall.
Bring forth the royal diadem,
And crown Him Lord of all.
Bring forth the royal diadem,
And crown Him Lord of all!

Ye chosen seed of Israel’s race
Now ransomed from the fall,
Hail Him who saves you by his grace,
And crown Him Lord of all.
Hail Him who saves you by his grace,
And crown Him Lord of all!

Let every kindred, every tribe
On this terrestrial ball.
To Him all majesty ascribe,
And crown Him Lord of all.
To Him all majesty ascribe,
And crown Him Lord of all!

Oh, that with yonder sacred throng
We at His feet may fall!
We’ll join the everlasting song
And crown Him Lord of all.
We’ll join the everlasting song
And crown Him Lord of all.

The photo above was one I took in Venice, CA when we lived in SoCal. I always loved looking up at the palm fronds with the sun peeping through.

Praying for you during this Holy Week. May you see and hear Him this week!
